Why is Social Media important for your business

Nowadays middle-age and older people, even business owners, consider that using social media is a waste of time. And by looking younger generations (and I mean really young), I can see why is that. But, what about all these people in between? Do they realize the importance of social media marketing, or are we still just consider it fun?

Lack of time is not a good excuse for not tapping into the social media world. With all the tools, freelancers, and agencies, how much time you have or don’t have is not relevant. Also, thinking that your customers are not on social media is wrong. First, I’m sure they are. And second, people who are on social media could become your customers. Think about that.

Maybe you don’t want to share your private life with everyone, and that’s ok. But the whole point of marketing is to talk about your business to everyone who wants to listen. And the numbers show there is a lot of people out there.

Did you ever read a book or watched a movie that made a great impact on you? That you just couldn’t put down or stop watching. And you kept thinking about it hours or even days later. That is an influence. And that is how you can affect your followers if you do your job well. That means you will have to invest a lot of effort into your marketing campaigns. Some of the things that can improve it are posting high-quality content, letting your followers see the person behind the business, and be honest and keep your word.

How can you influence?

I’ll tell you a true story. Maybe a year ago I saw an ad for an online clothes store. They had a leather jacket I really liked, judging by the photo. But I’ve never heard of a store before, I couldn’t find any reviews as it was brand new, the only thing I hung onto was the fact that the company was registered in Germany. So, I decided to order a jacket anyway. First, the package was delayed. It came 6 months later. That is certainly a long time! And when I opened it – as you can guess – it was no leather jacket inside. It was a synthetic shirt with a print of a jacket on it. I’m not even sure how to describe it.

What happened here was a lack of influence. I couldn’t ask my friends about it, because they never heard of the store. I didn’t have any reviews to rely on. There was nothing that could push me into the decision to buy or not to buy the jacked. Unfortunately. When you get ripped off like this, you will not repeat that mistake.

Social media is all about comments, reviews, likes, and shares. By posting great and high-quality content, you will impact your followers. If they react positively, they will influence others. Long story short: you need to create posts that will gain a lot of social interaction.

What is your marketing strategy?

What are you doing at the moment to promote your business, and you think it is not replaceable with social media? And a lot cheaper, or even free. I don’t claim that you need to replace all your marketing tools, just trying to prove my point: that social media networks are valuable more than we admit. For example, radio can be easily replaced with a podcast. Nobody has time to watch TV anymore, but YouTube is the second-best network, and there is also Instagram TV which is increasing in popularity fast. Newsletters can be easily replaced with posts on Facebook or Twitter. And so on.

And everything that is happening, it is happening in real-time. You can engage with your customers, find out what they like and want. There is a huge amount of people on social networks that are just waiting to be amused. It costs you (literary) nothing to try, right?
