Revealing the secret: How to repost on Instagram

Do you want to repost and reshare Instagram content? But you are not sure how? We will help you! In this post, you will find out how to (legally) repost from Instagram’s feed, stories, and much more.

Repost from Instagram’s feed to story

If you want to share posts from feed to your story, that is indeed easy to do. Under the post, you want to reshare tap the “airplane” icon and choose the “add post to your story” option. It will automatically insert it in your stories interface, so you can edit it and share it.

The image inserted in your story is clickable. The users who tap on it will be redirected to the original post. But, you can add stickers, text, and other things like in usual stories.

This can be useful to share your own post if you have more views on your stories than posts. You can share some older posts for your new audience, too. Or, you can repost from your partner’s content to highlight something that they posted.

Reshare from feed to DM

This is probably something that most Instagram users know about. You can share any Instagram feed post by sending it to DM to any user (again by clicking on the airplane icon). The same goes for stories and IGTC videos. However, if the owner of the post is private, and the person you are sending it is not following them, he/she will not be able to see it.

Reshare Instagram stories

If you were tagged in someone’s Instagram story, you can repost it to your own. You will get a notification about that. From your DM you can repost the story. It will open automatically in your story maker, and again – you can add stickers and other stuff as you wish. On the other hand, if you are not tagged you can just send it as a link to DM or any other app.

Repost IGTV video

You can share IGTV videos to your feed and your stories. If you are uploading your own video, you can add preview to feed and stories. That way, a 15-second video will appear on your feed/story.

repost

These were the basics. Let’s see how you can do things (safely) in a different way.

How to repost using tools

You can use third-party tools to repost someone’s content, such as Regrann. It is a very simple app, available only for Android smartphones at the moment. Basically, you copy the link tapping on the three dots at the post you like, and when you open the Regrann app the post is already there and ready. From there, you can import it to your Instagram. That is how you will get the original image or video. For images, you can also use simple screenshotting and trimming, but this is a very valuable tool for videos.

Some of the tools already have a built-in feature to add watermark along with the message like “repost from @username“.

Whether you use a tool or a screenshot, you have to get permission from the creator of that content. That means written permission. You can ask them by commenting on the content you want to share, or by sending a direct message to the user. Once you get permission, you can repost the content without fear of being reported. Make sure to tag or mention the user, even if they don’t ask you to do it.

What will happen if you don’t get permission?

If you decide to repost without permission, taking the chances and thinking you will not be discovered, you have to know that you probably will. Today I saw an Instagram coach who had over 300 000 followers getting banned, even he had (real) crazy engagement! Probably because of using automation tools. Nothing gets by Instagram anymore, so if you are willing to start building your account from scratch, go ahead.

In a better case, you will get a notification that the owner claimed the right to his content and that you can either remove it or complain. In the worst case, the owner can sue you. If you continue to do it, your account will probably be removed.

Reposting has always been a tricky task on Instagram. Which is sometimes annoying because that is where the best content is, right? Hopefully, you will find this post helpful. If you do, let us know.
